Dating back to 1882, what used to be known as the Royal Avenue Theatre located on the corner of Northumberland Avenue, near Trafalgar Square, hosted burlesques, comic operas and farces during its earlier years. In the mid-20th century it was taken over by the BBC as a recording studio for live radio comedy and rock performances, before becoming a hub for the dramatic arts and the works of some of our finest playwrights.
Now home to the famous Kit Kat Club, the intimate environs of the Playhouse make the ideal setting for London’s multi-award winning, risqué production of Cabaret. Visitors will be bewitched not only by the action on stage but the striking surrounds comprising wall paintings, an intricately designed safety curtain, horse-skull-shaped lights and decadent bars and lounges.
